How to Choose Open vs. Closed PA Corrugated Conduit

2026 03/21

Many customers often struggle with whether to choose open or closed type when purchasing corrugated conduit. Before comparing the differences, let’s first take a look at PA corrugated conduit itself:
It features high temperature resistance, smooth surface, good flexibility, anti-twisting performance and excellent bending ability. It is also wear-resistant, chemical corrosion-resistant and structurally stable.
Mainly used for automotive wiring, PA corrugated tube is also widely applied in machine tools, automation instruments, electric motors and other equipment. It effectively protects cables and wires from external abrasion and provides excellent insulation.
Besides various material options, corrugated pipe is structurally divided into open type and closed type. Below we clarify their differences to help you make a quick selection.

Closed PA Corrugated Conduit

Structure: Fully closed tube wall with strong sealing performance
Advantages: Dustproof, waterproof, oil-resistant, great protection and higher strength
Disadvantages: Only supports pre-installation of wires; cannot be retrofitted on already laid cables
Suitable for: New equipment wiring, applications with high protection requirements, long-term fixed lines

Open PA Corrugated Conduit

Structure: Designed with a longitudinal opening on the wall, which can be split open to clip in cables
Advantages: Fast installation, no need to thread or remove wires, supports retrofitting and easy maintenance
Disadvantages: Slightly lower sealing; cable ties are recommended for use in high-vibration environments
Suitable for: Existing cable renovation, frequent maintenance, complex scenes where threading is inconvenient

Quick Selection Guide

  • New projects, high protection, long-term fixed → Choose Closed Type
  • Existing cable retrofitting, fast installation, frequent maintenance → Choose Open Type
  • Automotive main wiring, precision equipment → Prioritize Closed Type
  • On-site modification, scattered wiring → Prioritize Open Type
